Infinix Hot 7 Review

Infinix Hot 7

The Infinix Hot series got a refresh a few days back with the release of the Hot 7 and Hot 7 Pro. It would replace the present Hot 6 and Hot 6X and even looks quite similar to the latter.

Before we dive into the details, here are some distinctive features:

  • 6.2″ Full View Display
  • 4000mAh Large Battery
  • 13MP Dual Rear Camera
  • 8MP Front Flash Selfie
  • Price: 42,000-46,000NGN

Compared to the Infinix Hot 6X, not much has changed. In fact, the screen size, cameras and battery capacity are exactly the same as on it’s predecessor.

DISPLAY

The 6.2″ screen sports a HD+ TFT display (720×1500). It’s a notched display—for that all-screen look. And it seems Infinix has fully switched to it.

STORAGE

The Hot 7 has two options:

  • A 16GB option that ships with 1GB RAM.
  • A 32GB option with 2GB RAM.

It’s surprising to still see 1GB/16GB phones released in 2019. Then again I guess there’s still a market for basic smartphone users. In addition, there’s an option for SD card expansion up to 128GB.

CAMERAS

Similar to the Hot 6X, the Hot 7 is equipped with an 8MP front shooter. Likewise a dual 13+2 setup at the back. While there isn’t a full-fledged 3D scanner array, Face unlock is available. Also, the rear cameras allow portrait mode. Video quality is pretty mediocre at up to 1080p @ 30fps.

Performance

In terms of Performance, the Quad-Core 1.3Ghz Cortex A7 CPU is just okay for normal day-to-day use. For a moment it looked like Infinix had fully switched to Snapdragon chips. However it seems they still tried to keep the cost down on this one. The Hot 7 will also ship with Android 8.1 (Go Edition)

Battery & Connectivity

The battery is rated 4000mAh. Which translates to about 8hrs of use on 3G. And speaking of 3G, that’s all you’re getting on the regular Infinix Hot 7. No 4G support here, sorry. That’s probably reserved for the Hot 7 Pro.

Others

You get the usual Dirac Audio, Dual Sim support, a headphone jack, a fingerprint sensor, micro-usb port and all the popular bandwidth coverages. You can buy the Hot 7 32GB/3GB for 36,500NGN or the 16GB/1GB version for 40,000NGN from Jumia.

Verdict

The Infinix Hot 7 is a pretty mediocre phone with mostly the exact specs of it’s predecessors. I’d really only recommend it for super-light smartphone users where the 1GB/16GB option may present a cheaper alternative to a modern look and feel.

Besides that, the lack of 4G and any significant improvement would mean anyone would be better off with the Hot 6X. I’d strongly recommend that or the Hot S3X as an alternative.

If you must use the latest in the lineup though, keep your fingers crossed for a Hot 7 Pro.
