Samsung Unpacked Event Highlights

Samsung held it’s much-anticipated 10th anniversary Keynote two days back. It was a pretty exciting one with 5 new phones announced. Likewise  a couple of Wearable Tech. Here’s an overview:

The Galaxy S10 and S10+

The devices get a pretty significant spec bump this year: the S10 and S10 Plus now sport a dynamic AMOLED display, and they are HDR10+ certified for an even brighter, and more stunning display.

The camera sensors have been laser-etched in a circular cut-out right into the screen, making it a notch-less display. The fingerprint sensor is also built into the display. They also have a rear Triple-camera setup — A Telephoto lens, a Wide angle and an Ultra-Wide angle lens. And for my favorite feature, Reversible Wireless charging — Which converts the back of the S10 to a wireless charging pad.

Other S10s

Alongside the S10 and S10 plus is a “budget” S10e. Samsung cut the costs on this one by dropping it’s screen size and resolution. Then using a capacitive fingerprint sensor on the power button rather than an in-screen ultrasonic one. As well as taking out the Ultra-Wide rear camera lens.

They also announced a 5G model to be released later this year — with a Quadruple camera array and a 6.7″ display. Making it bigger and better than even the S10+. However, the 5G service would be exclusive to Verizon when it launches later this year.

Galaxy Fold

Another special device announced this year was the Samsung Galaxy Fold. A 4.6″ device that opens up to a 7.3″ tablet. It will come in with 12gb of RAM and and an over 4,000mAh battery. However the standout feature is the price tag. At $1,980 (715,00NGN), this device is anything but cheap.

Okay, to be fair, this is a first of its kind product. It’s only going to pave the way for cheaper, much better Foldable phones in the future. Anyways we’ll see just how many people are that eager to own one when it launches later in April.

Wearables

Samsung also announced the Galaxy Buds with built-in microphones, active noise cancellation, and Bixby support. The assistant [Bixby] now also supports up to 5 additional languages. Anyone who preorders an S10 or S10+ would get a free pair of Galaxy Buds alongside. Although they’ll retail for $130, starting March 8th. Like the Apple AirPods, they wirelessly charge in their own carrying case and hold about six hours of charge.

Galaxy Watch Active

They also confirmed that the Galaxy Watch Active and the Galaxy Fit would be added to their to current Smartwatch lineup. Both devices are water-resistant for swimming, and, like other fitness wearables, they can also track your heart rate and sleep. The Galaxy Watch Active will be available first on March 8th for $199 (73,000NGN), while the Fit comes out on May 31st for $99 (36,000NGN).

Well, that was some event. Clearly Samsung decided to celebrate their tenth year in grand fashion.Watch the full event replay here.
